What is IIT JAM Exam

IIT JAM Eligibility, Pattern, Registration Details
JAM stands for Joint Admissions Test for M.Sc., it is an all India level entrance exam conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) to select qualified candidates for MSc, MSc-PhD dual degree and other post-graduate programs offered by these reputed Indian engineering institutes.

Eligibility

All those candidates are eligible to appear in the JAM exam who have either successfully completed their qualifying degree or they are due to appear in the final examination in the same year. For most of the post-graduate courses a Bachelor’s degree is required in the respective subject.

For IISc Bangalore, GENERAL & OBC Candidates should have secured 60% aggregate marks in qualifying degree (without rounding off) and 50% aggregate marks for SC/ST/PwD Candidates.

For all the IITs, minimum 55% aggregate marks for General/OBC candidates and 50% aggregate marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates in the qualifying degree without rounding off.

There is no age limit to appear in the exam.

Both Indian and foreign nationals are allowed to apply for the exam.

Exam Date, Pattern and Mode

Generally the IIT JAM exam is held in February month.
The exam paper can contain both objective and descriptive type questions, depends on the subject you choose. Except Biotechnology and Computer Applications, the exam of all other subjects are descriptive in nature.
It's an online exam. A negative mark of 1/3rd will be deducted for each wrong answer given by the applicant.

How to Apply

An interested candidate can apply for JAM exam only through its website. The applicants can also check their application status, download admit card, see their result and download score card.
